From the Classroom to the Court: Intuit for Education’s Financial Literacy Forum Empowers Students at Scotiabank Arena

More than 200 students and educators from the Toronto District School Board stepped into the spotlight at Scotiabank Arena for a high-energy day of learning, sport, and inspiration as part of Intuit’s Financial Literacy Forum event series, hosted in partnership with the Toronto Raptors and MLSE Foundation.

Held for the first time outside of the United States as part of its international expansion, the event brought together youth from across Toronto for a dynamic, rotation-style experience designed to build confidence both on and off the court. Students moved through a series of immersive activities and real-world scenarios, including “The Tax Reveal” challenge where they explored how income, deductions, and credits influence a tax refund using TurboTax software, “The Building Blocks of Business” simulation where students navigate QuickBooks Online to run a business, and the highly-anticipated “Buckets and Budgets” hands-on basketball clinic on the Raptors court centered around organizing a budget. The activities equipped students with practical tools to better understand money management and future planning.

A highlight of the day was a fireside chat featuring Intuit TurboTax’s Head of Marketing, Gah-Yee Won, alongside Jamaal Magloire, former Toronto Raptors centre. Together, they shared personal insights on perseverance, career journeys, and the importance of financial knowledge in achieving long-term success—leaving students with both inspiration and tangible takeaways.

“Financial literacy is more than understanding the tax code; it's about having the confidence and capability to make decisions that can truly improve your future,” said Gah-Yee Won, Head of Marketing, Intuit TurboTax. “By providing students with these immersive hands-on learning experiences today, we are empowering the next generation to make smart financial decisions that will ultimately strengthen our communities tomorrow – let’s keep building that financial confidence early.”

Beyond the programming, the atmosphere was celebratory. Students enjoyed lunch, connected with peers, and received a range of prizes and giveaways throughout the day. For one lucky participant, the experience became even more memorable, walking away with tickets to the Raptors’ final home game of the season.

By blending sport, education, and real-world mentorship, the event underscored a shared commitment to empowering youth with the skills and confidence they need to succeed—both in the game and in life.
