Youth Leader Story: Akos from MJKO Boxing

1/23/2018 4:52:23 PM

Organization Name: MJKO Boxing
Date: January 16, 2018

Akos Horvath is an inspiring sixteen-year-old immigrant from Hungary who currently works as a Youth Coach at the MJKO Champion Centre. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 2007 and currently attends Bishop Marrocco Catholic Secondary School.  A large part of his adjustment to life in Canada was enhanced through his passion for boxing. His interest in boxing began when he was introduced to MJKO’s boxing program at Parkdale Public school in 2011. Since his enrollment, Akos has achieved a bronze, silver and gold medal at various Boxing Ontario tournaments.

As MJKO’s first Provincial team athlete, Akos will be proudly representing Team Ontario at the Boxing Canada Nationals in Edmonton on March 2018. He continues to be a great leader, working at the facility twice a week assisting with boxing programs as a Youth Coach in Parkdale. MJKO is extremely proud of Akos’s hardwork and dedication as he constantly pushes himself to learn more, in hopes of one day taking over as the Head Coach. He is so thankful for MJKO for helping him find a sense of belonging within the community, allowing him to grow and challenge himself on a daily basis.
