Aris Kaplanis Chair, MLSE Foundation

Aris Kaplanis has more than 30 years of experience in the technology sector. Most recently, he was President and CEO of Teranet Inc., having assumed the helm of the company when it was founded in 1991. Mr. Kaplanis earned an honours B.A. in Economics and Communications from Heidelberg College in Ohio and completed advanced studies in Business Administration at the University of Akron and the Wharton School of Business. Mr. Kaplanis has been the Honourary Chancellor of Assumption University (Windsor, Ontario) since 2005 and received an honourary Doctor of Laws degree from the University in 2000. He is a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, awarded for making a significant contribution to Canada, the community, and fellow Canadians.He is a Patron of Operation Springboard.He sits on several Private Sector Boards.
He is the recipient of a Papal Knighthood having received The Order of st Gregory from Pope Benedict.

Drew Abbott Senior Vice President TD Wealth Management

As a Senior Vice President and Investment Advisor, Drew has been in the investment industry for more than 22 years, and has been ranked among the top 25 Investment Advisors in Canada at TD Wealth Private Investment Advice.
Drew has extensive charity and volunteer experience dealing with a broad spectrum of charitable organizations. He has lent his time to the Sick Kids Hospital telethon, the Children’s Aid Society and the Childhood Cancer Foundation, just to name a few.

Lynda Bowles Retired Partner, Deloitte

Raised in Toronto, Lynda completed both her Bachelor and Masters of Science degrees at the University of Guelph and taught in the University’s Consumer Studies department with an emphasis in foods, for five years before returning to school to earn her CA designation.  She retired in May 2012 after working as a Senior Audit and Assurance Partner of Deloitte & Touche LLP for over 33 years.
Lynda was the recipient of several awards including The International Alliance for Women Award, the Canadian Women of Influence Award, the Lynda Bowles Spirit Award Winner and the YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Business.
She completed the Canadian Board Diversity Council Advanced Board Director Education Program and is an active board member. She is also an active volunteer with the Canadian Executive Services Association and has travelled to the Artic and to the North West Territories to provide seminars and workshops to Inuit and First Nations organizations. The seminars dealt with effective governance methods and with the understanding of financial statements.

Wendel Clark Former Leafs Captain, Ex-Officio Director

One of the most beloved players in Toronto Maple Leafs history, Wendel was Toronto’s first choice, picked first overall in the 1985 Entry Draft. He captained the Maple Leafs from 1991 to 1994 and served three different shifts with the team. He retired after the playoffs in 2000 at the age of 33. Wendel is currently employed by the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club as a community representative, representing the club in all areas of Marketing, Community Relations and Alumni Relations.

Freda Colbourne President, Colbourne Consulting

As a public relations and philanthropic strategy specialist, Freda previously served as the CEO of Edelman PR. Currently, Freda is an independent PR consultant for leading Canadian philanthropists and Imagine Canada Caring Companies. Freda is a graduate of the Board Governance program at the Rotman School of Business.

Clifford Grevler Senior Partner and Managing Director, Boston Consulting Group

Cliff Grevler is a Senior Partner and Managing Director of the Boston Consulting Group. He is also the Managing Partner of the Boston Consulting Group in Canada, overseeing BCG’s operations across Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. He is the former leader of the Consumer Goods and Retail Practice, and continues to work with CEOs and senior executives of leading retailers and consumer products companies on the key issues facing their organizations.

Cliff joined BCG in 1997, after spending time in marketing with S.C. Johnson Wax. He has appeared regularly on Canadian national television and radio and is a frequent contributor to the Report on Business section of The Globe and Mail.

Skilled at defining winning business strategies and change-management programs, Cliff brings intellectual and process leadership skills to tackle complex, ambiguous business problems. He has deep experience in creating and leveraging consumer insight to drive business and operational strategies.

In addition to his work across consumer and retail industries, Cliff brings his passion for sports to the Boardroom - supporting several sports organizations across North America with the strategic issues facing their organizations. He has worked across leagues and teams in the NHL, NBA, MLS, CFL, PGA Tour. He was a Governor for Golf Canada for many years and has contributed to committees for Olympics Bids, World Cup Bids and the Grey Cup.

Vijay Kanwar President, KMH Cardiology and Diagnostic Centres

As an executive member of many high-profile boards, while also establishing and growing his own highly successful business, Vijay Kanwar has accumulated significant experience in forming and implementing strategic plans, supported by his acumen for financial management.
Vijay’s motivation to launch and grow KMH Cardiology and Diagnostics grew from his vision of offering high-level, timely, and affordable patient health care options. Since opening his first facility in 1988, Kanwar has never taken his focus off that goal, and by recruiting and developing a high performing team, has grown his business to over 20 locations, serving over 300,000 patients each year in Canada , US and other parts of world, while also working on the leading edge of electronic medical records, and leading international medical research.
Vijay understands importance of public policy ,corporate risk management, international affairs and how to attract foreign direct investment to Canada. As Chair of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Vijay was able to guide Pearson airport to international hub status; supporting several major infrastructure projects – e.g. terminal development, Union Station rail link – and spearheading the process to recruit new management, while improving traveler experience and significantly increasing net profits. As a board member of other organizations, Business Development Bank of Canada , York University, and the Treasury Board of Canada, Vijay has combined his business expertise with his connections across government and private industry, and his understanding of public-private partnerships, to champion and drive significant capital projects.
Helping others to set and realize their goals is a major motivation for Vijay’s philanthropic work. Sitting on boards including Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment’s Foundation, the Royal Ontario Museum, and Canada’s National Ballet School Foundation has been rewarding, and is in line with Vijay’s desire to contribute to a thriving, healthy community.
Vijay credits his diverse educational background, including a Master of Laws earned from Osgoode Hall Law School, a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management, and a Bachelor of Science earned from Punjabi University in India, with his ability to tackle a wide range of challenges and come up with creative, effective solutions.
Vijay is proud to have grown his career and raised his family in Canada, and is gratified to live in a country where diversity is valued, nurtured, and recognized as a strength.

Chris Morley Vice President, Government Relations, OMERS

Chris is a senior leader at OMERS, where he helps the business navigate and build relationships with governments in priority global markets.  Chris previously served as Chief of Staff and Director of Communications to the Premier of Ontario.  He lives in Toronto with his wife and three young children.

Joel Rose Partner, Aird and Berlis, LLP

Joel Rose is a partner and a member of Aird and Berlis’ Corporate/Commercial Group, specializing in M&A, with a particular focus in representing private equity funds in acquisition and divestiture of Canadian businesses. He is also an active member of the Regulatory Team, who provides advice to the gaming, transportation, and energy industries, including from an M&A perspective. Mr. Rose is continuously selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada under the specialty of Gaming Law as well as in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading lawyer in Transportation Law.

Walter Schneider President and Co-Founder, RE/MAX INTEGRA Ontario-Atlantic Canada Inc.

Walter is the Co-founder of RE/MAX INTEGRA Group of Companies, which includes head offices in Toronto, Boston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Zug, Switzerland. It is the largest real estate sub-franchisor in the world, representing the RE/MAX brand in 35 countries, 2,500 offices and 30,000 sales associates, selling a house every 65 seconds. The company is Mississauga based and Walter is a lifetime resident of Toronto. He is also the owner of a number of other companies both Canada and US based. He is actively involved in Philanthropy, a partner of MLSE and proud Canadian.

Darryl Sittler Former Leafs Captain, Ex-Officio Director

One of the greatest players to ever wear the Toronto Maple Leafs uniform, Darryl was also Toronto’s first choice, picked eighth overall in the 1970 Amateur Draft. He played 844 games with the Leafs and also played in Philadelphia and Detroit. Mr. Sittler retired after the 1984-1985 season, and in 1989, he was honoured with an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He returned to the Leafs organization in August 1991 to become a representative in the Community Relations department.
